Silver slider pencil by an unknown maker, dating to approximately 1830. The approx. date is due to it having a waffle seal and the quality certainly rivals Mordan. The barrel is marked “London Improv’d”. The nozzle of the pencil is a near perfect match to the nozzles on the two J. Butler pencils I have;. Butler started in business in the 1820’s and perhaps this is an early Butler in response to the Mordan Riddle? His early ones were known to have the hobnail/waffle seal.
