John Mabie – Mabie’s Patent – BHR

Mabie’s Patent pencil. Trim is likely gold-filled. Barrel imprinted “Mabie’s Patent”, along with “Oct.3.1854”. Barrel is a little faded but pattern and imprints are crisp. That date corresponds with John Mabie’s patent # 11,762. However, that patent was actually for a combination-case and not a twist pencil but at the time no one was likely to know that!
