Charles Gordon Commemorative Ink Bottle – Ruby Red

Quite intriguing “ink bottle”. According to information found on the web, it is believed to have been designed by Thomas Kidd around 1885/1886 but there is no known design registration filed. It is quite large for an ink bottlealthough the actual ink reservoir would only hold a couple of ounces. It is made of deep red glass (appears black but a strong light shows that it is red). I have seen an identical one in clear glass. The lid is missing. There was a great deal of public support & sympathy for Gordan at the time and this may have been a very popular item when it first came out.
