There is no makers mark on this pencil, however it does have two patent stamps. It is in near mint condition. There is no rubbing on the gold surfaces so it is unknown if it is rolled gold or solid but the most common was rolled. The upper barrel is stamped “Goodyears Pat May 6 51” (1851), and the lower barrel is stamped “Pat June 27 1865”. Cox passed away in 1866 and there is no indication that his pencils were made subsequent to his death. As such, there are not very many of these pencils floating about.
