John Hague and Sam Maycock were successful pencilcase makers in the 1830’s. During this period, many successful companies would have tokens made up that could be used by their customers. During the “Panic of 1837” in America, these tokens were also used interchangeably with real currency. The coin is engraved “S. Maycock & Co. Everpointed Pencilcase Manufacturers” “35 City Hall Place N.Y.” “Sam Maycock John Hague” and has the year 1837 and the american eagle on the reverse. An interesting addition to the collection.
