John Holland – Extension Pencil – BHR

John Holland pencil representing his May 23, 1882 patent #258,298. Chased chevron barrel pattern. Minor plate loss, and a couple of little dings to the metal parts. Overall very good condition. To extend the pencil you simply hold the barrel and pull on the cap; the inner sleeve then pulls upwards and the pencil tip is revealed. The pencil tip itself is a very simple mechanism that locks onto the lead and if you twist the tip it releases the lead to allow fresh lead to be revealed (it does not have the automatic feed type mechanism).
