Charles Gordon Commemorative Ink Bottle – Green

Quite intriguing “ink bottle”. According to information found on the web, it is believed to have been designed by Thomas Kidd around 1885/1886 but there is no known design registration filed. It is quite large for an ink bottlealthough the actual ink reservoir would only hold a couple of ounces. It is made of pale green glass. I have another one in dark ruby coloured glass and I’ve seen another one in clear glass. The lid is missing, and there are a number of small chips in the glass. There was a great deal of public support & sympathy for Gordan at the time and this may have been a very popular item when it first came out.
