John Hague – “J. Hague’s Patent” – 1839

An exceptionally rare John Hague’s Patent pencil. Hague was one of the earliest americans to patent an everpointed pencil. This one is stamped J. Hague’s Patent along with the patent date of Aug. 16, 1839 (it is patent # 1,291).   The Hague patent uses an extra barrel to slide the mechanism in and out rather than a ring as on most old pencils.
